Macadamia allergy can display the variety of symptoms from mild oral allergy to severe life-threatening systemic reactions, i.e. anaphylactic shock or bronchial asthma. Allergy to macadamia is quite common all over the world, most of the cases are children, and it belongs to tree nuts food allergy that requires by Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act to be labeled specifically.

The allergens of macadamia nut are poorly characterized and systematized. XEMATest Macadamia does not detect the antigens of cereals, legumes and other nuts.
